(Like I'm going to tell you!) Well, part of my personality is that I don't let just anybody in on what I'm really like. On the other hand, I'm very curious about your personality, how you think & react. If you seem the type to want to put people in convenient pigeonholes, I'll enjoy trying to present an image of myself to you that conveniently fits a pigeonhole... Unless you're fairly smart and have an easygoing personality (the kind of people I like most), you may never see what I'm really like. So... no full disclosure of my personality here, but you get a few hints. People who already know me may want to read my astrology page and the Portrait of J. Random Hacker for some interesting insights and comparisons. Chinese PortraitA Chinese Portrait is an abstract artistic depiction of a person. You complete several sentences of the form "If I were a(n) X, I would be..." to provide insight into the way you feel. These portrait questions were cheerfully boosted from the Nephilim RPG's suggestions. If I were a natural phenomenon, I would be...A strong wind. It would be a bit abrasive and probing on contact, but once you relax into it, it seems friendly and inquisitive instead. Playful, erratic, extremely difficult to catch and contain. Dancing around big obstacles, restless, sometimes moving quickly, other times appearing unhurried and wistful. If I were a metal, I would be... Palladium. It's silvery-white in appearance, slightly reflective. It is one of the softest metals, melts easily and can be re-formed into something different given a little time and effort. Adaptable and useful. Also one of the more unusual metals (it does strange things at room temperature), rare and hard to extract. If I were an animal, I would be... A cat! What else? That just about says it all... If I were a color, I would be... Dark Blue. The color of deep water. Absorbs all manner of dirt and scuffs without seeming to change much. Almost black... sometimes seeming sad, inviting, comforting or threatening and unfriendly... If I were a mythological being, I would be... Hermes/Mercury. The messenger-god of the greek/roman pantheon. Mischevious, fun, friendly... smart and devious too. Looking for creative ways through or around the challenges in life. If I were a famous human being, I would be... Peter Abelard. My hero. :) You'd have to dig through the history books to find this guy, but he was lots of fun. A real smartass, prone to getting in trouble by challenging authoritarian leadership. Desiring knowledge and the journey of learning more about the issues that concerned his world by debating them from both sides. Lived for having fun, but always trying to do The Right Thing when it came down to it... If I were a human activity, I would be.. Debate. Less interested in the outcome of a question as what can be learned from trying to understand the question from the inside and both sides. Not accepting the word of a single authority on a subject, but letting two or more opposing viewpoints challenge and test each other. If I were a work of art, I would be.. Starry Night. by Vincent Van Gogh. Mysterious, dark and twisted. :) In a way... Evocative, open to many interpretations. Van Gogh painted this while confined to a mental institution. Psychiatrists at the time (and currently) figure he was 'crazy' and in need of psychological help. Could a calm and cheerful "well-adjusted" person have created something so beautiful and tormented? There is value in the whole range of human mind-states... If I were a weapon, I would be... A scalpel. Sharp, incisive... useful for taking things apart and seeing how they are put together. Not generally useful for mass destruction, but great for fine, involved work. Usually used in the context of trying to understand or work on something at a very precise and defined level. If I were an object, I would be... A mylar helium balloon. Transitory, fragile, easily destroyed completely. Fun to be with for a while, but difficult to keep in one place for long, requiring constant effort and maintenance to hold it down. You always have a sense that it wants to be soaring up high in the sky, floating free and cheerfully watching the world go by beneath it... Other Personality TraitsOn the Kiersey Temperament Scale, my main type comes out as NF: Idealist and my sub-type is INFJ: Counselor. Maybe the quiz is broken... :) In general, I'm much, much more interested in how something is put together and why it works the way it does, than in how it looks. That's why I'd like a magazine like 'popular mechanics' with cool diagrams and stuff more than I'd like a fluff piece of crap like 'Wired' which is all about image and is low on useful content. You can extrapolate this about almost anything... I'm much more interested in someone's mind and feelings than I am in what their body is shaped like, or what color their skin looks like. Want more?
