Steven Zeck's Astrological Signs

Astrology is the study of the movement of planets and stars in an attempt to predict future events. Proponents suggest that the earth has natural cycles that are predictable using the alignments of stars and planets to determine where you are in the cycle. Alternatively, gravitational influences or the light shone on Earth from these sources affects day-to-day life. Critics point out that other celestial bodies (besides the moon and sun) have little to no gravitational influence on Earth. Also that the light supposedly coming from other planets is really the light of the sun, reflected. And there is no scientific proof available to suggest that there are, in fact, repeating cycles. That said, If you're curious to see what the astrologers have to say about my "star signs", I've collected some information about them from other web sources.

Being born on January 27, 1978 puts me in the Zodiac sign of Aquarius. In the Chinese zodiac, January 27th is before the Chinese new year, putting me in with the rest of the people born in 1977 - the year of the Snake. In neo-pagan tradition, my element is Air (Mind) represented with the sacred knife; the Athame.

Being a critic, I'm not going to comment on how well I feel the descriptions apply to me. :) I don't know what sign you get when you combine Aquarius (water-bearer) and Snake. Maybe an eel? They're sort of water-snakes, I guess. :) I'm not into astrology, so don't ask me any questions about it. I don't know if I have any signs in other astrological systems. If you put my first and last initials (SZ) together, they look sort of like an Omega. I've heard that a Z with a slash through the middle (like the Europeans who draw a slash through their 7s draw the Z) is used by some systems as the symbol for "Mind" magick.

According to Astrologers, we are entering the Age of Aquarius. Being a bear of very little brain, I decided to look this one up. Apparently, the earth has a 25,920-year cycle of rotating through various North stars. At the moment, the North star (the star every other star in the Northern sky appears to revolve around as the earth rotates) is Polaris, in the constellation Ursa Major. In the past, it has been Vega and Deneb (and in another 12,000 years or so, it will be again). This cycle has been broken down into twelve 2160-year "ages". We are currently in the age of Pisces, and it will end, depending on your calculations, somewhere between 2060 and 2100. So, the song "Dawning of the age of Aquarius" came about 120 years early. :) We are, however, within 1 degree of the new age (each age represents 30 degrees of the full circle); at the extreme end of the age of Pisces and in a transition period. Theoretically, in the Age of Aquarius, everyone will be moody philosopher-types, and we'll have great revivals of love, peace, harmony and joy. If I live that long, I'll be 90 or so, so I doubt it will do me much good.

If you want to quickly see Zodiac/Chinese zodiac data and compatibility information, you can use my zodiac-o-matic which can calculate these things. All it's data comes from the pages linked to here, though.

Aquarius

Astrologers are fond of this eleventh sign of the zodiac for Aquarius is the sign of the future, of the visionary and some say of astrology itself. Aquarians are unorthodox, original people who refuse to follow the crowd. You like being different. You not only march to a different drummer, you make up new music as you go along.

Intellectual independence is your most marked characteristic. In the sign of Aquarius, the combination of a fixed quality (representing intellect and communication) under the influence of the planet of change, Uranus, creates a personality that is liberal, progressive, yet fixed in opinion. Your inflexibility shows up when others least expect it (in keeping with your penchant for unconventionality). It may be in defense of an idea you have, a trip you've decided on, a habit of yours that you refuse to give up-whatever the cause, someone will suddenly come in conflict with your Aquarian obstinacy. You cheerfully ignore what others think and strike off on new paths, unbound by precedent, because there are so many more exciting things for you to discover that way. You think boredom is a communicable disease and take every opportunity to avoid it.

People born under this sign live most intensely in their minds. You are a seeker of knowledge, rational, open-minded, gifted with breadth of vision. You can be objective in judgment, for you don't let emotion get in the way. This appears to give you the ability to stand outside yourself, to rise above ordinary human frailty. Your built-in distrust of emotion compels you to struggle against its chains, and this may become a source of inner conflict.

You are very people-oriented. Outgoing and amiable, you attract friends wherever you go. You relate well to diverse personalities-possessing a true common touch-yet you never lose your own strong individuality. As a student of human behavior, you have a great tolerance for the weaknesses and foibles to which all mankind is heir. You are a humanitarian, concerned with the welfare of the world, but do not get deeply involved in intimate relationships. There is always a certain distant quality to you, a detachment or aloofness of spirit.

Independence is your way of life, and you will sacrifice even a close personal relationship in order to maintain it. Trying to fence you in or tie you down won't work. If you feel trapped, you try to break free at any cost.

As an idealist you would like to see that everybody is happy, and your ambition is to do something important and meaningful. Many Aquarians go into politics or become involved in social causes. This is the astrological sign of hopes and wishes, and you are the kind who follows a dream.

An Aquarian will hatch up a grandiose scheme for improving the way things are, but your main interest is in creating the idea, not translating it into action through work. Hard work doesn't interest you. You are creative, imaginative, endlessly willing to experiment but the drudgery of detail and minutiae of management are not your style. You'd rather invent a new Utopian scheme and let others grapple with the hard realities.

Your great weakness is a tendency to inflate your own importance, to pose as an expert on any subject.

You are so determined not to be like anyone else that you are sometimes contrary just to be different. You have the least regard for convention of any zodiacal sign, which often gives you a reputation for being eccentric.. Just as you are broadminded about the faults of others, you take for granted that your shortcomings will be overlooked.

Sometimes you will be argumentative not because you feel deeply, but simply because you enjoy the intellectual exercise. You are quickly bored and take delight in verbally provoking anyone you consider stodgy and dull.

Nevertheless, Aquarians are among the kindest people in the world. Easygoing, reasonable, slow to take offense, never mean hearted, you believe in live and let live. Honest, helpful, altruistic, and best of all never boring, you can change anyone's life for the better just by becoming part of it.

Year of the SNAKE

Philosopher, theologian, political wizard, wily financier - the Snake person is the deepest thinker and enigma of the Chinese cycle. He is endowed with an inborn wisdom of his very own; a mystic in his own right. Graceful and soft-spoken, he loves good books, food, music, the theater; he will gravitate toward all the finer things in life. The most beautiful women and powerful men tend to be born under this sign. So if you are one of the Snake people, you are in good company.

A person of this sign generally relies on his own judgment and does not communicate well with others. He can deeply religious or psychic, or on the other hand, totally hedonistic. Either way, he trusts his own vibrations rather than outside advice. More often than not...he will be right.

Snakes have always been the seducers of human beings. If you know the story of "The White Snake", you will understand what I mean. In reality, Snake people are born charming and popular. Snakes are spotlight magnets, and they will not be ignored. Peer group attention and public recognition are the least of what he expects. Yet Snakes are never noisy or deliberately outspoken, and they have have excellent manners.

Unlike the Snake who seduced Eve in to sin. the astrological Snake, is not a devil, not even a little demon. The Snake is a nice oversexed normal human being. Determined to follow through anything he undertakes to the bitter end, the Snake detests being left in the air. He makes his decisions quickly and firmly.

Most people are secretly or hopelessly in love with Snakes. Gather those frustrated folk you know and most likely, they are probably in love with a Snake. Irresistible as they seem, the Snake never wastes time in idle gossip. He thinks often and deeply. He is an intellectual, a philosophers, a cerebral person. Snake people rely heavily on first impressions, on their own feelings, on their sympathies, rather than on facts, on the advice and opinions on others. He seems to have a kind of sixth sense in this way.

Snakes are a bit tight when it comes to lending money, though his sympathy for others often leads him to offer help. The fatal flaw in his character is, in fact, a tendency to exaggerate - in helping friends as with everything else. If he does somebody a favor, he becomes possessive towards them in an odd way. Another big flaw in a Snake's character is that, they are capable of biggie lies. White lies, true lies, whatever they call them, though they don't lie often, they do lie when they feel they can get away from it.

In money matters, the Snake has good luck: he doesn't have to worry - he'll always be able to lay his hand on money when he needs it. Generally, Snakes are careful but generous with friends and family. The Snake should stick to careers that won't involve him in any risk - even the risk of working too hard, for to tell the truth, the Snake is a bit lazy.

In love, the Snake male is romantic and charming. He has a sense of humor and the female is usually beautiful and successful. but if a Snake chooses a partner, he'll be jealous and possessive - even if he no longer loves her. Rejection is the worst blow his delicate ego can suffer. The Snake must be received, welcomed, accepted and approved by those with whom he comes in contact. They need a lot of security.
