[08-24-2000] kathy_123 : hi, this one is a simple one. I have a stand alone computer at home. I would like to use the fax utility, do I need exchange installed in the computer? because it doesn't have it and everytime I open outlook and look for the send fax line in one of the menus all i find is send message. Please help!

[08-24-2000] saintly : Yes, Microsoft Fax uses Microsoft Exchange to send the faxes. If you are using Windows 95, installing Microsoft Fax will also install Exchange. If you are using Win98, MS Fax support has been removed (it was deemed too useful - all useful features of 95 were supposed to be removed in Win98, but some escaped).
Put the CD in the drive and explore it. Go to the folder Tools\OldWin95\Message\Us and run the program awfax.exe . It allows you to install MS Fax.
If you have Win95, go to start->settings->Control Panel. Run Add/Remove programs, go to Setup and push the checkbox to install Microsoft Fax. Some versions of Win95 may have Fax under 'Communications', others have it at the bottom of the main list.
Does that help?
