[08-19-2000] Bill.Murphy : I downloaded the newest version of Internet Explorer yesterday but now when I go to access my email I get the message "Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be loaded. It looks like I deleted the code needed to access Outlook Express but how do I get it back?

[08-22-2000] saintly : Download MSOE.DLL from this link: http://www.isdn-net.de/ado/treiber/dll/m/msoe.zip and copy it to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. This might cure the problem if this is the only DLL that is missing. If there are other DLLs missing, then you probably shouldn't try to replace them one by one. If you want to try, visit:
http://www.treiber-archiv.de/
And find each missing .DLL by first letter. Programs only tell you one at a time which are missing when there are several; it is bad design.
If you get another error message saying that another DLL is missing the next time you start Outlook, or you have replaced all DLLs and it still doesn't work, then you need to reinstall Outlook from the MS Office CD. This will delete all your old mail, unless you back it up first. If you want to save old mail, let me know and I'll see what I can do to help you.
Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel. Click on Add/Remove programs. Choose to Remove Outlook Express (this will delete all your old mail!). Then put in the Office CD. Choose to install a custom install and select only Outlook Express to install.
Let me know if that helps or if you need more...

[08-27-2000] Bill.Murphy : I want to reinstall outlook express but I want to back up my old mail. Can you tell me how to do this?
|

[08-28-2000] saintly : If you're using Outlook Express 4.0 (not 5), you can copy all files ending in .mbx or .idx to a backup folder. Then copy them back in after you reinstall outlook express.
To find them, you can go to the outlook folder or start->find->files or folders. Type *.idx or *.mbx or *.wab (.wab is your address book)
And copy them to a backup folder or disk. Just copy them back over the Outlook Express files when you reinstall.
For a more expanded description of how to do this, visit Microsoft's Knowledge Base at: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q188/8/54.asp
There are other procedures, and some automated tools (that cost money) to backup outlook express as well:
http://pages.prodigy.net/jdjd/backup/emailback.htm Talks about them.
Hope that helps...
